San Diego County Midwives is not contracted with any insurance companies, Medi-Cal, or TRICARE. All birth and other midwifery services are an out-of-pocket expense.

Although we do not bill insurance companies, we will provide a superbill, so that you can submit paperwork for possible reimbursement. Coverage varies widely even with PPOs, so please check with your insurance company prior to using our services.

Does insurance cover midwifery care for home birth?

Insurance companies have their own set of rules and procedures regarding home birth. Some PPO’s will cover a portion of the services and some will not. HMO’s will not cover home birth.

It is best to contact your insurance company early in the prenatal period to inquire about coverage and reimbursement. This will insure that you have a full understanding of your financial responsibility prior to using our services.

Does insurance cover birth at the Birth Center?

PPO insurance plans will normally reimburse you for the Birth Center facility fee.  Insurance facility fee will be billed at the standard and customary rate.

Do you offer discounts?

Yes, we have reduced pricing for military families, paying in full by the third visit, and those with Medi-Cal or TRICARE health insurance. We are not contracted Medi-Cal and TRICARE providers, so the discounted price is an out-of-pocket expense.

Do you accept payment plans?

Yes, we have several payment plan options, and we will work with you to find the one that best suits your financial situation.
